The Scott Family

I loved working with this family! There are five children so it can be difficult at times to get them all on the same page, but it was totally worth it! We will be doing another session when our 40 MPH winds are not such a disturbance : )

To new beginnings and life long passions...

Since I was a small child I have always wanted to be a photographer. My Mom jokes about it because as a toddler, I ran every camera within a 1 mile radius out of film.

At the age of 13 my Dad took me to the local pawn shop with every bit of my hard earned chore money in my pocket. (I spent $150 and it was worth every penny.) I had finally bought my first “real” camera. (an SLR) I used that camera so much I’m truly surprised it still works.
Even though I was very young, I had a passion for photography. Some say that’s enough and some might call me crazy, but I took pictures of EVERYTHING and everyone that wasn’t sick of it already. Practice makes perfect, right?

Over the years I have spent so much money developing film and buying the digital prints for $9 a disc…. Remember that? Part of me is so glad those days are over, but I can’t seem to part with the camera, even though it’s a 35mm, and I choose not to use film anymore. I guess it represents a big milestone for me and I’m just not ready to let it go. I have a half a mind to put her in a glass display case to show the world “This is how it all started.”

I wanted very badly to go to school to obtain a degree – Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, but there were too many things in my life preventing it. Looking back on it, I’m glad I didn’t go to school. I decided that I didn’t want to learn someone else’s way, I wanted to have my own style even if it would take me longer to make it out there in the “real world.”

Some people may not want a photographer that doesn’t have a degree or ten years of professional experience but somehow I know that will not slow me down. Personally I believe that everyone does have their own style, some will like it and some won’t. The people out there that do like my style will keep me going, and the one’s that don’t will keep me on my toes! I will always be open to constructive criticism and new ideas.

I am so excited yet scared to death about this new journey!

Here are a few pictures of our local scenery here in Southern Utah. I love coming across this kind of stuff when my Husband and I are out “adventuring.”
